Perfection

Into her room I followed
Behind me I closed the door
three candles gently burning
their glow flickering on the marble floor
vases of glory lilies
subtle effusions of a summer night
jade orchids and tea
lavender, tangerine, her perfume
I stared at the sacred flames
rapt in their devilish dance
shadows waltzing on her flawless face
Mesmerized was I, entranced
by the crimson petals that were her lips
luscious and soft
ready and true
impossible
impossible
impossible

(I took a passage from "The Pacific Between" and made it into a poem)
