Two Years

It's really hard to believe that I've been blogging for two years now. It really doesn't feel that long. Of course, I only posted 22 entries in the first year, so that almost didn't count. It was pathetic. I had a web page back then (still do) so the blog wasn't really my focus.

When I started this blog, I wanted to write about my trials and tribulations as a newbie writer. I put up my goals, my New Year resolutions, and I tried to write about rejections and what I learned about the publishing business. Then I suppose I got bored. There wasn't really that much going on between submissions and writing my WIP.

Eventually, the blog evolved. Sometimes my posts have nothing to do with writing. Sometimes it's like a place for promoting my work, and I'd imagine people actually come here and read what I have to say (funny how we fool ourselves into thinking that way). In a way, it's rather therapeutic. In a way, it's also rather silly.

I don't know. Will this continue? Will this be something I'd be doing a year from now? Two years from now? The funny thing is that when I was younger, I NEVER wrote journals or diaries. I hated it. I had absolutely nothing to say to Dear Diary. It felt stupid. I always write, but back then I wasn't really much of a writer. Writing seemed to be a way for me to "impress" others, rather than to express myself. I suppose that's still true now. But I am more comfortable with myself now and it's not always about trying to impress someone else. For all I know, nobody reads this thing anyway so it's not like I'm going to impress anyone. But I write for fun, for the joy of it, and it's a wonderful thing to go back to the archive and read a snapshot of my brain -- WHAT WAS I THINKING?

So, my readers (yes, that means you, and you, and -- oh goodie -- you... all 3 of you), what is your blog story? How did you start? Why did you start? And what did you learn from the experience? Will you continue to do it? What do you want to get out of this?

Questions. Questions. Questions.

Now answer me.

I used to have a blog and I stopped. Life was too much at that point. Maybe someday I'll start again. I initially started because several friends had one (yaknow peer pressure :P ) What did I get out of it? Nothing. Ahhh youth wasted on the young or some such thing. If I start again I want to have a millions of readers.
One can dream.

Can't wait to read your book.

Just because I'm already reading your blog, Ray, doesn't mean you can't post those naked pictures anyway. G'won...you know you want to...

Ha! I have those "what was I thinking?" moments even in recent posts. ;) My blog story...well I started my blog to keep myself writing something, anything, every day. It started out to be about my writing, goals, and progress. Something a bit more personal than my website. Yes, I will continue to blog. Reading other blogs has been fun, interesting, entertaining, and educational. It also helps me stay informed about many things in the publishing industry and other news. Every once in awhile, there's that one story or one comment on a blog, that motivates me. You know what I'm talking about...a subject that puts your mind in overdrive to the point that you must write what you think. Diary, maybe. Intermost thoughts, sometimes. Heartfelt writing, always. ;) Good writing, that's up to my readers to decide.

Unique... I already did. You just have to find 'em.

Joanne, how true. Sometimes I wonder if I'm being too honest, too personal here. You know, I am the man of mystery and all...

Did you say your book had naked pictures in it? No? Must have been what I wanted to hear!
I started blogging to get my work out and it felt good! Now I have a fan and I am very proud of it. Yes I said a fan. So? Gotta start somewhere, right? I am so proud to know you. Imagine all this happening for you in just two years. Gives me hope!

These two years seemed like a long time, but in reality it really wasn't. I think I've been kind of lucky in certain aspects, but not as lucky as I hoped. (I am greedy -- I want that 6-figure advance and big contract from St. Martin!) But life is strange and we will just go for the ride and see what happens. And hopefully these blogs will serve as a witness... even if no one reads my blog, I think it's still interesting to look back and see "What the heck was I thinking..." :)
