The Economy

I find it interesting that on the same day Greenspan said the US economy would be in severe trouble if we don't alleviate our budget deficit problems, the President tried to paint a rosy picture using job data.

He said, he said.

I think I'll put my money on Greenspan (pun intended).

On Topic: but, wasn't there good news? I mean, yeah, we do have problems with the deficit, but gee, the economic picture is better than it's been in a while...

Yeah, the short-term prospect is better now (and after how many years of slumping?) but I'm worried about the long-term problems. I think it's irresponsible for us to not think about the long-term impact our deficit and national debts will have for YEARS to come...

No argument there - but I don't think any President is going to be the one to make the difference, ultimately - they just turn over too often and the next administration, wanting to make it's own mark on history, just undoes the works of the past ones to some extent.

It seems to me that it's going to really be up to congress to take the long term view - Senators and Representatives are (potentially) in office much longer and should be able to launch and see through long term change.
